This 1969 L88 Corvette is a multiple award winning Corvette and it recently sold at the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction for $624,800 including commission. It’s one of 116 total L88 Corvettes built during the 1969 model year. As an L88 powered Corvette, all the required options that go along with the engine are installed on this car: F41 heavy duty suspension, J56 heavy duty disc brake calipers, J50 power brakes, G81 posi-traction rear end, K66 transistor ignition, and M22 heavy duty close ratio 4-speed manual transmission. In addition to the required L88 options, this car is also factory equipped with: N37 tilt-telescopic steering, C50 rear-window defroster, black leather seats, and the one year only option N14 side mount exhaust system.
I can hear many of you crying foul, as any L88 Corvette should be a heater delete car. The L88 Corvette required the C48 heater delete option only for the 1967 model year. All the 1968 and 1969 models were required to have a factory heater installed to meet new government guidelines. So this car is correct with the heater installed from the factory and as a convenience, it has the rear window defroster to improve visibility on humid or cold days (and nights).
I photographed this car at my L88 Corvette display at the 2009 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals. Kevin Mackay was responsible for organizing the display and it turned out great! He verified and documented this 1969 L88 Corvette and it was a huge assistance to have fantastic documentation to go along with this car. Documentation can be more important than an authentic engine stamp pad for many Corvettes. This car has it’s original Protect-O-Plate, original tank sticker, copy of the window sticker, and owner’s manual.
In addition to all the documentation, this car is a multiple award winning car. Not only has it received an NCRS Top Flight award, but it is also a two-time Bloomington Gold award winner and it was also displayed in the 2008 L88 Invasion Special Collection display. Besides being in my L88 display at the 2009 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN), it was also a Gold Concours and Triple Diamond award winner at MCACN.
This is an excellent 1969 L88 Corvette and from what I can tell, despite the fact that 116 L88 Corvettes were built during the 1969 model year, it might even be a 1 of 1 1969 L88 Corvette when you factor in the additional factory options, paint and interior combination and T-top configuration.
