An early-production car built on September 20, 1966, and sold new at R&S Chevrolet in Joplin, Missouri, this genuine Tuxedo Black, big-block, 4-speed, factory-air 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray coupe was Bloomington Certified in 2009 after a comprehensive body-off restoration completed that same year. The 1967 Chevrolet Corvette benefited from years of mechanical refinements made from its introduction as the all-new Sting Ray.
Its revolutionary styling had evolved as well, the final iteration sporting the second generation’s cleanest cosmetics with smoothed body surfaces, minimal badging, a new vertical 5-slot side-vent design and a single center-mounted backup indicator light. The overall look was enhanced by new Rally wheels with chromed center caps and trim rings bracketing five slots. There was one exception to the final midyear Corvette’s uncluttered appearance: an aggressive-looking stinger hood scoop that signaled the presence of the Mark IV 427 CI big-block V-8, then available in three flavors from 390 HP to 435 HP, not counting the special high performance race-purposed L88.
This award-winning 1967 coupe presents an expansive roster of optional equipment headlined by the original matching-numbers L36 427/390 HP engine. Performance options include factory side exhaust, an M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, power steering and power disc brakes. One of only 815 bearing very desirable Tuxedo Black, here with a red stinger and black interior, its superb presentation is enhanced by 7.75-15 red stripe tires on Rally wheels. Interior options include factory air conditioning, Soft Ray-tinted glass, head rests, telescopic steering and a Delco AM/FM radio.
This very rare big-block coupe’s documentation includes CCAS/Al Grenning affirmation of the body and trim tag, engine block, stamp pad, and engine stamp, the Bloomington certificate and judging sheets, the owner’s manual packet, restoration photos and receipts, an NCRS Shipping Data Report and a large 3-ring binder.
